3-Act

The 3 acts are:

ACT I - Setup

ACT II - Confrontation

ACT: III - Resolution

All of these are important to move the story along and not make it boring. The inciting incident is what leads our hero to their crisis. It make the character's journey have some kind of arc. If there was no arc there really wouldn't be a story. Or maybe not such a moving or relatable story to the audience.
