End of the year reflection:3

I honestly feel like the History of Film was least productive to what we tried to learn in this class. Without that unit I feel like I would've been more productive if we did more hands on stuff with sound or lighting. Really if you just took out the History of Film and did everything in the order they came, we would have more time to do things in class.

End of the Year: 2nd Reflection

I liked the sound unit the most because not only can I use that in film, I can use that for games and animation as well as film. So if I get really good at sound equipments I can get into almost any line of work to make really good sounding stuff for people. I want to know more on how these skills can be incorporated when making music for films. Overall a more hands on experience with all of the sound equipment would be nice.

End of the Year: reflection

Now that we are at the  end of the semester I honestly feel like my mobile film was the best one out of all my work this year. I feel like its the best because that was the video where I feel like I had more say as to what went into it. I feel like, if I could improve on my work it would be my script/ story writing. I don't feel like I had enough time to learn or RE- learn how to do that.

Inocente

This girl talking about how she is homeless and how she has to go to school makes me think of my family. My family was homeless as well when I was a baby. This story can even impact people who have the privilege of being in a house their whole lives. They not only interview this girl who is homeless, they also went to all of the places that she has ever gone to. They had amazing b-roll of where she has been living as a homeless person with her family.

If i die on mars

This was probably the best documentary we've watched so far! I'm going to tell all my friends to watch it. Other than that this documentary was very moving because it was a nice blend of science-fiction and documenting. The only thing that was really interesting was not only that this was their actual ambition to make this happen so that it may become reality but the personalities and the attitudes of the people being interviewed who wanted to go to mars and die there. They didn't even need reenactments, archival footage or journalistic reporting because the idea and how the documentary was executed was so amazing I had to send it to my teacher right after.

STRANDBEEDS Documentary

This documentary had narration. The other documentaries didn't have narration. This one also had archival footage to show how long this guy was making creatures. In a short amount of time you feel like you've learned so much about the artist and why he does what he does.

Reinvention of normal DOC

This documentary is different because it had short small animations and showed the crazy inventions that the artist had through out the film. The b-roll they had, mostly consisted of the animations or him with his weird inventions. They also used clips of when he was younger to more accurately explain how the came to be an artist.

NFL documentary

I feel like this documentary is more enjoyable than the last ones. This documentary was more unique than the last one. This not only had music, b-roll and an interview but the content of this documentary and how it was structured compared to one about the comic books and the one about the man with the drive ins is that it was just this one guy from a couple of years ago to right now in what he is currently doing. the use of the pills and the superman action figure was a great way to convey what the foot ball player was feeling. The guy's attitude was also different than most. He knew his strengths and weaknesses but he also didn't let that bother him at all. That is what I liked about this documentary.

Reflectors

Reflectors can be used strategically to properly light some ones face to make them look better. There can't really be too much light on the subject but, that's why you have different reflectors that do different things. Depending on if its a silver reflector or a whit one you can get either more light in one direction or you can make a softer less sharp light.

Enjoy your Intermission

These Film makers tried to make you feel an emotional connection to the man who had a drive in for movies. The mood makes you feel almost nostalgic. They do this by authentically showing each character's feelings and their situation of going out of business.

Almost everything you need to know about B-roll

B-roll in a documentary is footage of things happening in between interviews or during narration. In a documentary it really helps when you are trying to show a certain aspect of someone's life or how something works or to see how people interact without people talking all the time. This article really encourages b-roll as something that can drive your documentary forward and make it interesting.

The art of the interview

The most important things of an interview are to make your subject feel comfortable. That means that you give them some time to worm up to the camera and feel better about being on screen. You should also direct the subject to do certain things in front of the camera. You can also not  be fixed on the questions. Its good to have be fore hand but you can also let the subject flow with the interview and let certain things unfold.

Documentary proposal template

It is unavoidable to write a proposal so, you must be prepared to write one. You need to be able to tell a good story. This is important because it needs to be interesting to get people hooked on what you trying to get them to watch. You can't information from a text book you need to be getting information from professionals. Having characters to dramatize your documentary can also really help because this helps viewers feel relatable to the character on the screen.

Writing a documentary treatment

The treatment is important because it helps keep your ideas organized to create the kind of documentary you want. The two most important things mentioned was the synopsis which gives you the foundation of your documentary idea to work with and the characters which are the main people that your idea is based around. I plan to work with my partners to help create a good, clear, and concise treatment.

Comic book Heaven

These filmmakers were trying to to convey this old man in a world where every thing is evolving but he is staying the same as he watches the generations of people walk in to his store. they used a lot of b roll and voice overs. They also had set interviews with the man as he talks about his life and the comics he liked. They even had the old style country music to go with b roll.
