What parts of the production process seemed interesting? Why? What parts do you want to learn more about? Why?

I think the most interesting things about pre production is the scoring. I love that the most because I love finding/making the music that makes the movies we watch that make you feel something emotional in movies. I want to learn more about making music and writing lyrics. I want to be the maker of the great soundtracks for movies that we love so much. Movies that hold special places in our hearts from the amazing artists that come together to make amazing music. I also want to learn how to handle cameras so that I can make really cool looking camera shots/angles. I also want to write, direct, and play in my own films.

Did you shoot for your mobile film over the weekend? How did it go? What were some challenges you faced? How did you overcome them? If you have to shoot on campus today, what is your plan?

To be completely honest, I shot my mobile film before the weekend and on friday. Originally I thought this was going to need to be done by friday so I made sure that I had footage.  The challenges I faced with this whole project in general was getting stuff done on time. But because there were many setbacks I made sure that I had footage early as possible. I overcame these challenges by just doing everything backwards from shooting to outline because I didn’t think I was going to be able to do anything. My plan for today is to just don all the editing for today.

How did the process of writing your script go? What challenges did you have? What parts do you feel you need to learn more about?

I feel like writing my script went well. I feel like celtx is very helpful to get your screenplay done. The only challenges I felt like I had was Saving my document but I think that worked that out with another student. Overall I honestly don’t think I really think I need to learn anything more to be honest.  feel like celtix gave me all the information I need for writing a script.

How is your outline/treatment coming along? What are some of the story challenges you are coming up against? What are your plans to work past them? What is your story's arc?

I think I’m doing well with my outline/treatment. The only challenges I’m having are not having actual talking in my story. My story arc is: The girl is minding her own business and creepy guy is following her. When she notices him she runs away. Then guy catches up to her and she gets scared. But then man gives her back her keys she had lost.

Now that you have pitched your story to the class, what were some of the problems with your story? Did you get a greenlight? How do you plan to fix those problems? Talk about three different improvements you can make to your story.

Some of the problems I have encountered was having dialog in my script and having to change my script in a way that helps get my story across with no dialog.   I got greenlighted though!!! I’m so happy that people wanted to see my video.  The improvements that I’ve made while discussing the story with my partner was to get rid of the dialog and that’s it.

What are some problems with your story pitch? Is it a complete story? How do you plan to fix it? Does it fulfill all the assignments requirements?

I personally think I have a great story pitch. I think I have an easily executable and well thought out story to tell. The only problem is trying to NOT use any dialogue. I plan to have a discussion with my partner and the class to see how we can fix it. But I believe it is doable.

What is the pitch for your mobile film? What are some challenges you are facing? How do you plan to overcome them?

My Pitch is :
A girl is at her house with nothing to do. She looks outside her window and she sees a car drive by with loud music. When the car is gone the music doesn't die down. The girl goes back in her living room and she dances to the music that is still playing. at the end of her dance she realizes that there is STILL nothing to do and lays back on her couch in the living room as the music finally dies out.

Pitch #2 :

Someone is taking a midnight stroll. They walk all around downtown San Jose. But someone is following them. This person is being stalked for quite sometime. Eventually the character picks up on the stalker and starts walking faster and faster. The character starts running and running until they think they’ve lost the stalker. The character looks around and out of no where the stalker jumps out of the cuts and knocks out our character. The character then wakes up in the trunk of the kidnappers and then they take the character out of the car. The character makes a deal to dance for the kidnappers and then they get to leave. After the dance then the kidnappers trick the character into thinking they can leave but then steal their clothes and then make them walk in their underwear in public.

What kinds of stories do you think would be best for the mobile filmmaking platform? Why?

I think that sci-fi horror, comedy, and dramas would be great on mobile films.

I think they would be great because I personally feel like those genres on a mobile camera would make the viewer feel like they are relatable to the characters.

What are some of the most important parts of mobile filmmaking? What parts of the storytelling and shooting process are the most critical?

Some of the most important parts of mobile filmmaking is to really make sure your sound is good. You also have to make sure that you have a decent smartphone. But just like any kind of film you have to make sure you have a very well planned out story for your film.

What are some of the new platforms to deliver video through new media? What do you think are some exciting video production career opportunities going forward in the industry? How do you plan to be a part of it?

In new media you can deliver videos through mobile devices. I think people will start getting jobs in new media by working on youtube. I think through youtube you can quickly boost your image and build a career by putting videos on youtube. I plan to use youtube as an outlet to connecting with the world with my videos. That way I’ll be sure to get job offers by companies who will have seen my work.

Austin's Butterfly

Austin was a first grader. Austin at first drew what was in his head. He then learned to actually draw the butterfly he picked. At first he wasn’t good at what he did. But he kept on doing it. Its important to make many drafts because you can’t start something and just give up. He also needed the help of others to constructively critique his work without making him feel bad. He listened to his friends and he made an awesome butterfly. In our class if we honestly communicate and tell each other the truth about how we can improve then and we can all better ourselves at our crafts so we can be the best we can be.

What were some of the difficulties that director Terry Gilliam encountered during the filming of his movie? What were some mistakes he made? How could he have avoided them?

Some of the problems Terry has encountered when making his film was having a hard time trying to communicate what he wants to see on the big screen to people who don’t know what his ideas are. He also didn’t think to have any back ups for actors just incase anything happened. He definitely could have avoided what happened by making sure actors got medically taken care of. He also could have tried to have back up actors ( I’m not sure if thats even possible). He could have also made sure people got paid up front so they wouldn’t leave the set.

What is mobile filmmaking? Have you ever seen a film shot on a smartphone? What was cool about it?

A mobile film is a film shot with a smartphone. I for one have seen many films on the big screen and on the web of mobile videos. What was so cool about it is how you can make a really great professional film with something in your pocket. Now not all mobile films are good. In fact, lots of them are terrible. But just like any film in general, it takes hard work and dedication, planning and motivation into making a good mobile film.

What production sector are you researching? What surprises you about it? Why? Write about some parts of it that you find interesting?

I am doing Religious Film production. The only things that really surprise me about that sector is that is that there are mostly Christian Productions. It was kinda hard to find any other religious production. Its surprising because there are millions of followers to other religions but SUPER difficult to find any Islamic, Hindu,or buddhists productions. In-spite of all that I find that there are millions of Christian broadcast channels, documentaries, and movies.

Why is copyright important? What aspects of it have you encountered in your life? Write about a specific instance that you encountered.

Copyright is important because If you have an idea that you know will get famous, you have to prevent someone from stealing it. I’ve had to deal with videos on the internet being blocked on mobile devices or completely blocked in general because of copyrighted materials. I remember one day I was trying to show my sister a video and the video was blocked on mobile. So we had to wait a whole day before we got to her house and I FINALLY got to show her the video.

What are the most important parts of Digital Etiquette? Describe an instance where you had bad digital etiquette and what happened. How could you have done it better?

The most Important parts of digital etiquette, are RESPECT and PROOFREADING. One This i’ve messed up on was misspelling on a status and people read it. Luckily Facebook allows you to edit your status. But next time I post ANYTHING I’ll definitely be sure to proofread my stuff.

Now that you've completed the set safety and etiquette lecture, why is it so important? What parts of it do you think will be difficult to follow? What parts would you like to learn more about?

Now that I’ve finished my set safety and etiquette lecture, I’ve now realized how important it is because in order to be organized, prepared and SAFE on set you need to follow procedure. It makes the project that you have get done a lot more easier. I personally think that just being professional and reliable is going to be hard for us. OH! And the no touching of equipment… I think a lot of us will mess up on that, but mostly being professional and reliable. I personally want to know how to direct, do camera work, and make music for films of all lengths.

What are your goals while you are taking this class? Take some time to map out a goal you can accomplish by the end of the Fall semester and then the Spring semester. Take time to craft a realistic, achievable goal that you can steadily work toward.

My goals in this class are to learn how to direct and how to integrate all of my crafts into video and film making. My small term goals for the fall semester and spring semester are to carefully practice my crafts, go out to film my crafts and learning to direct myself and others in a way that can help best tell the stories I want to tell. For instance I love God and I love dancing and keeping my body in shape. I also love documentaries of Christian artists of all kinds who tell their stories. So by the end of the year I’d love to make a documentary directed by me that contains previous videos of mine that tell my stories and why I do what I do. But first I’d have to learn how to film and direct first, right?
